    Head Veterinary Nurse

    RVN APVN(sm)

I qualified from Edinburgh Napier University in 2015, and started working as an RVN at Braid Vets in 2016. After spending a few years working at our hospital branch, I then joined our team at Leith Walk as the Senior RVN. In 2021 I then became Head Nurse and moved back up to the hospital branch. I have a huge passion for nursing and am a true advocate for the nursing profession. We have such a great team of nurses and ACAs at Braid Vets, and I am very lucky to work with such a driven and capable team. During Covid I completed and passed my Advanced Certificate in Small Mammal Nursing. I absolutely love small mammals, and believe that the care provided to these species can (and should!) be to the same standard as we’d expect for dogs and cats. At home I have a very cheeky Sphynx cat called Egg – and you can always guarantee i’ll be the first one in your consult room to say hello if you have a Sphynx, Rex or Siamese ❤️

After qualifying from the ‘Dick Vet’ in 1994 I worked for two years in a “mixed” practice in Cumbria. In those two years I enjoyed the beautiful Lake District, got married and decided my future was in small animal practice. I then spent five years at an animal charity practice in North East England and obtained a Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons Certificate in Small Animal Surgery. My wife and I were delighted to return to Edinburgh and I joined Braid Vets in 2003, becoming a partner in 2008.  In 2018 I started to work part time, and spend most of the 2 days I am at Braid in the operating theatre, I hugely enjoy both soft tissue and orthopaedic surgery.

Outwith work I am kept busy with my family and walking my two German Short Haired Pointers, Archie and Bramble.

After graduating with a BSc in Animal Biology from the University of Guelph in Ontario, Canada, I moved to Scotland to complete my veterinary degree. I qualified from the University of Edinburgh in 2015 and made the decision to stay in Scotland – to begin my career and to continue to explore this beautiful country. After graduating I worked at a small animal practice in Fife before joining Braid Vets in 2017.

I enjoy working closely with clients in all aspects of my role and have developed a special interest in dentistry, chronic pain management and veterinary acupuncture.

Outside of work I enjoy traveling and spending time with my partner, Richard, and our dog, Fox, and cat, Eno.

However the lure of the North prevailed, and I returned to Edinburgh and joined Braid Vets in 2014. I recently completed a post graduate Certificate in Small Animal Medicine. I have a strong interest in medical cases, especially cardiology

I first came to Braid Vets as a school student looking for work experience and joined them when I graduated from Edinburgh University in 2019. I love working at Braid Vets, especially my time in the operating theatre. When I am not looking after the furry members of the family I enjoy playing badminton and climbing. I am currently searching for an older cat to make my home complete.

    Senior Veterinary Nurse

    RVN

For as long as I can remember I always wanted to be a Veterinary Nurse and spent my childhood always begging my parents for more pets.

I moved to Edinburgh in 2005 so that I could study veterinary nursing at Napier University, where I enjoyed my many placement visits to Braid Vets. I became a member of staff here in 2008 and qualified as a Registered Veterinary Nurse in 2009.

Since qualifying I have become a mentor to student nurses here on placement from the College of Animal Welfare. This role involves giving tutorials to develop practical skills and providing support to the students during their time on here at Braid Vets. This is a part of my job that I am particularly passionate about. I have a special interest in physiotherapy and rehabilitation and in January 2013 I was awarded a BSAVA merit award in this subject.

At home I have a cat called Molly, who enjoys sleeping, eating and the occasional mad half hour. In my spare time I enjoy shopping, going to the cinema, socialising with my friends and visiting my family in the North East of England.

In January 2016 I became a consultation nurse which involves running clinics such as puppy and kitten chats, adolescent health checks, weight management programmes, post operative care, physiotherapy and discharging patients to their owners after surgery. This is a new role within the practice, and a new challenge for me. My favourite part of consulting is seeing pets grow from puppies/kittens to adults through the clinics and developing a bond with the pets and owners.

Senior RVN – Theatre and Anaesthesia

I have been a Veterinary nurse since 2009 and over 4 of those years have been with Braid Vets. I am currently the senior nurse that is in charge of the running of our operating theatres, so I have a particular interest in surgery and anaesthesia. Before joining Braid vets I lived in London and worked at an animal rescue centre. In my spare time I am running around after my 1-year-old daughter. On the rare occasion I get some time off from parenting you can usually find me listening to a history podcast, playing video or board games or enjoying a pub quiz.

I first came to Braid Vets in the summer of 2012 for placement with Edinburgh Napier University where I completed my degree. I was then lucky enough to become a weekend assistant during my studies and when I qualified in 2015 I was offered a position as a full-time Veterinary Nurse. I enjoy each aspect of my job but have a real interest in anaesthesiology and hope to work towards extra qualifications in this area. Outside of work I spend a lot of time trying to entertain my adorable Border Collie, Corrie, who has been with me since she was a very cute puppy!
